To Our Beth El Family,
As summer draws to a close, we at Beth El have been preparing for the approaching High Holy Days. This year, the holidays feel “early.” But we are excited to welcome you to your Beth El home. We need this time together to reflect on the year that has past and to prepare for the coming year. Please read this letter carefully as it contains important information for these Yamim Noraim, Days of Awe.
Schedule: The full schedule of services and learning opportunities is available HERE. We have offerings for all ages, backgrounds and interests.
“Tickets”: Again this year, we are not issuing tickets. We want to communicate a double message. First, everyone is welcome at Beth El; no one will be turned away without a ticket. Second, services are not a performance nor are congregants an audience. Instead, we ask that you come prepared to engage and participate.
Guests: Guests are welcome, free of charge. If possible, we ask that they register with us in advance so we can officially and warmly greet them, but it certainly is not necessary.
Holiday Needs: You can order Etrogim, Lulavim or Skhakh (for Sukkot) HERE. They will be available for pickup on Sunday, September 23 from 9 am to noon. Questions? Contact the synagogue office at 952.873.7300.
Holy Days Honors: If you are interested in participating in services by opening the ark or having an aliyah, please contact Rabbi Davis.
High Holy Day Childcare: You must register your children in advance to secure spots. Registration for childcare can be found HERE.
Food Drive: Begin your year with a mitzvah by helping those in need. Please give to the Yom Kippur Food Drive.
Security: St. Louis Park police officers will ensure our safety. Contact greeters when you arrive or ushers if we can assist you in any way.
Accessibility: Please keep reserved parking and reserved sanctuary seats available to those in need. Sign language interpretation will be available for services as listed in the attached schedule. Hearing devices and large print machzorim are available in the Ring Lobby.
Parking: We thank our neighbors, Benilde-St. Margaret’s, for sharing their parking lot and their auditorium.
Finally, Prepare: Beyond logistical arrangements, these High Holy Days ask us to prepare spiritually by reflecting on ourselves this past year (cheshbon hanefesh), repairing relationships (teshuvah), and committing to improve our lives, our community and our world (tikkun olam). Attending the Center for Learning programs throughout Elul/September is one way to begin that preparation.
As you can tell from the above list, the High Holy Days require much planning. We thank our staff in advance for working over the summer to make them meaningful.
