Is peace possible for Israel and its neighbors?
Meet two students – one Israeli and one Palestinian – who studied the environmental concerns that transcend borders and hear about the education they received in mutual respect and cooperation at the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies. Their contrasting narratives and journeys make the hurdles to respect and cooperation obvious, while showing us that there is the possibility for change.
On October 25, two Arava Institute alumni will visit the Twin Cities to share their experiences in Israel. Eve Tendler, an Israeli from Tel Aviv, and Shadi Shiha, a Palestinian from Amman, will share stories of growing up on separate sides of the regional conflict but coming together in 2016 to study the environmental issues that affect people of all backgrounds throughout the region.
Located on Kibbutz Ketura in southern Israel, the Arava Institute plays host to five environmental research centers and an academic program accredited by Ben Gurion University. Founded in 1996 on the premise that environmental concerns of the region transcend political borders, its alumni travel throughout the United States and the world raising awareness of the possibility for peace achieved through environmental cooperation.
