Cantor Jessica Woolf Silverberg received her ordination and a Masters in Jewish Studies from Hebrew College in Boston in 2021. Originally from Portland, Oregon, she received a Bachelor of Music in Music History from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. While in Boston, she was the Cantorial Intern at Temple Beth Sholom in Framingham, Massachusetts, where she pioneered the use of instruments on Shabbat and developed the “Soulful Singing Circle,” an alternative morning service inspired by Hadar’s Rising Song Institute and the Nava Tehila community in Jerusalem. Cantor Silverberg has served as the High Holiday Hazzan at pulpits in Baltimore; Charleston, South Carolina; and The Woodlands, Texas. Cantor Silverberg currently serves on the Judaic Studies faculty at the Jewish Community Day School of Rhode Island and as Minyan Coordinator and Temple Educator at Temple Emanu-El in Providence. Cantor Silverberg is a LEEP (Leadership for Emerging Education Professionals) Fellow and part of the tefillah leadership team for NewCAJE. Cantor Silverberg plays multiple musical instruments including oboe, violin, and guitar. She regularly attends the North American Jewish Choral Festival, where she has performed with Zemer Chai, the Jewish Chorale of the Nation’s Capital and the Zamir Chorale of Boston.In her free time Cantor Silverberg enjoys discovering and cooking new vegan recipes, playing board games, and spending time with her husband Dr. Steven Silverberg, an astrophysicist.
