At Beth El Synagogue, your support matters! Our synagogue community is sustained almost entirely by program fees and charitable gifts. Donations support our efforts to be a warm and welcoming home, a home that binds one to generation another, a home patterned on the rituals and rhythms of Jewish life that bring meaning and beauty to our lives and holiness to our world.
This year, we are proud to share our new Yizkor Memorial Room that will live on our website long past these High Holy Days. Because Judaism believes in the immortality of the soul, Yizkor gives each of us the opportunity to reflect on the people who made a difference in our lives and left a mark on our hearts. This Yizkor Memorial Room is a sacred space that invites us to remember and share. It is place where children remember parents, spouses remember soulmates, and parents remember children – a place where we remember siblings, grandparents, relatives and friends. And it is portal from which we share their picture, their lessons, their story, with family and community.
There is a longstanding Jewish tradition to give tzedakah on Yizkor and Yahrziet days. By making a tribute in memory of our loved ones, we affirm their values, we continue their lives. We bring goodness to the world as we say, “ziknronam livrakha,”their memory is a blessing.
The names that have been listed in our traditional Yizkor Book have been listed in the Yizkor Memorial Room. You can search for your loved one and then update their listing – add their photo, add their obituary or a few words about their life. If your loved one is not currently listed, you can add a new memorial to honor them. Finally, you can visit the listings of your extended family and friends and make a donation to add a Tribute on their page.
